National Merit Scholarship – Bell, Areté Junior

Congratulations National Merit Scholarship Competition Qualifier – Bell!

Thanks to her outstanding PSAT performance, Bell qualified for this year’s National Merit Scholarship competition. Chosen from among more than 1. 5 million participating U.S. high school students, her score puts her in the top 50,000. Wowza!

“Bell is a deeply curious scholar and a first-rate critical thinker,” says Jim Hahn, Areté Head of School. “Her PSAT performance is further proof of her broad and impressive academic talents and of our kids’ ability to apply the deeper learning of the Areté Seminar to a wide range of challenges.”

“While high-stakes assessment isn’t part of Areté’s research-based approach to assessment and teaching, it is always thrilling to see our kids blow the lid off of one of these tests — and it happens often!”

Bell loves math and plans to study it in college. “I am especially interested in more abstract mathematics,” she says. “I would like to go into a field where I can use math and engineering to help people. I may try to get a job in biomedical engineering.”

Interview questions for Bell:

What are you most curious about learning academically? Like what might you want to study or pursue in college?
I want to for sure study math! I am especially interested in more abstract mathematics.

What type of career might you pursue?
I would like to go into a field where I can use math and engineering to help people. Because of that I may try to get a job in biomedical engineering.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Five years from now I will be a senior in college so I hope that I am using the time to learn really cool things that interest me.
